On January 11th, 1998 Bakersfield will celebrate its 100th year of incorporation. To coordinate a full year of events planned in conjunction with the anniversary, the City formed the Centennial Celebration Foundation.

Through efforts of the Foundation a Centennial Rose was developed to decorate Bakersfield's first-ever entry in the Rose Parade.

Among several other notable developments, a Centennial Wine is in production by Giumarra Vineyards, while a commemorative book is to be published by The Bakersfield Californian.

Elsewhere, a Centennial Plaza is being developed in front of the Bakersfield Convention Center with personalized bricks for sale that will be used to pave the plaza.
