1997 December Dec. 11 - Historic Tour of Down Town Buildings and Homes. Afternoon and evening tours. Centennial items will be on display. 1998 Tentative January Jan. 1 - Rose Parade - Charter Bus Tours Jan. 10 - Centennial Parade "A moment in Time." Different "moments" of Bakersfield History will be epresented in our Centennial Celebration Parade. Part of the Rose Parade Float will be displayed. Jan. 10 - Celebrate 100 years of Family Ownership at the Bakersfield Californian. Open House 9 am to 12 noon. Jan. 10 - Bakersfield's Centennial Celebration "The Party of the Century," at the Convention Center. Join us for historical displays, fabulous food, great entertainment, dancing, prizes, and fun! Jan. 11 - Bakersfield Symphony performance with original local Centennial. Conductor: John Farrer. Jan. 15 - Citywide Prayer Breakfast. Jan. 18 - Celebration of Spiritual Heritage and unity in the community. Over 200 churches are working together to present an evening of Celebration of our Spiritual Heritage in song and word. Jan. 24 - B.C.S.D.'s Downtown Elementary "Remembers the Years and Looks Forward to the Future." Jan. 28 - Dan Fogelberg - Third in the DBL Entertainment Centennial Concert Series at the Fox. February February - Black History Days included in an educational Forum on Race Relations. Feb. 8 - Bakersfield Symphony concert with original local Centennial composition. Feb. 21 - Decades of Health - Ten Bakersfield high schools recreate each decade of our century in health. Each decade will be represented by booths, drama and comedy. And ifnormatino about the health care advances throughout the last century. Students have the opportunity to participate in scholarships and other awards. Fun and informative at the Kern County Fairgrounds in the Harvest Hall. Feb. 25 - United Way Non-Profit Conference held at the Double Tree Inn. March March 8 - Centennial Harley Run. March 14 - Centennial March Meet and BBQ at Famoso. March 15 - Centennial Symphony Concert. March 17 - St. Patrick's Day Parade March 19-22 - "Maggie." The original musical hit about Bakersfield at the turn of the century. Some of our favorite people will be on stage giving us the performance of a lifetime. At the Fox. March 20-21 - Exhibition of Children's art and literature - Adobe Krowe Gallery from Family Week competitions, kids crafts, and shoe box displays. April April 4 - Toy Tea at Lori Brock. Enjoy a miniature old fashioned tea turn-of-the-century-style. At the Kern County Museum. Plus, during the spring break children will go back one hundred years and recreate Bakersfield life and crafts. April 6th to 9th. April 6 - LPGA and Women's Sports Exposition and Awards. Golf Links is hooking up with the CCF to honor women. From professional golf and tennis to volleyball exhibition. Women's awards banquet the night before at the Crystal Palace. April 18 - A Centennial Beautiful Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce event to honor the best of Bakersfield from architecture to education broadcast live on KGET-TV 17. April 19 - Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra featuring an original Centennial Composition. April 25-26 - Centennial Multi-Cultural Festival in Central Park. Special guests from sister city Cixi China. May May 3 - Women's Chorus Concert featuring Centennial Music - Sunday afternoon Bakersfield Convention Center. May 5 „ Hispanic Cultural celebration "Cinco de Mayo." A celebration of 100 years of Hispanic influence in Bakersfield. May 7 - National Day of Prayer Brunch. Prayer for the next 100 years - Spiritual Heritage Committee. At the Women's Club of Bakersfield. May 16 - Centennial Children. All sports day. A day to involve the children in Bakersfield rich sports history. Play games, have fun and compete for prizes. At Rio Bravo Resort. May 18 - Bakersfield Symphony - final original Centennial Composition performed. May 19 - A day to celebrate 100 years in Bakersfield Education at he Convention Center.
